Traditions and Customs in Graubünden

Graubünden with its capital city, Chur, can look back on a 11,000-year history of settlement. Time enough for it to develop its own customs and traditional character. Whether it's "Chalandamarz" in Engadin or "Pschuuri" in Splügen: these customs have made the folklore of Switzerland's biggest holiday region all that it is. Graubünden is the only region in Switzerland to be influenced by the culture of three languages: German, Romansh and Italian.

Traditional cuisine of Graubünden

Graubünden's cultural diversity expresses itself in its cuisine: there are all kinds of specialty dishes unknown to other Swiss regional styles of cooking. Here you will find a quick A to Z of Graubünden food: Bündnerfleisch, Capuns, Maluns, Nut Pie, Pizokels and other dishes.

Heidi from the Swiss Alps

Johanna Spyri's worldwide bestseller "Heidi" has lost nothing of its magic to this day. Heidi symbolizes the values of home, truth and good deeds, and she has been doing it for 120 years. Heidi belongs to Graubünden like the ibex, the Romansh language and the world of Alpine adventure. What's more, numerous films, TV shows, books and media features have made Heidi the most famous girl from Graubünden - and indeed from Switzerland.
