On the slope above the village of Brigels rises the walls of the pilgrimage chapel St. Eusebius, Sogn Sievi in Romansh.

Description

History: The chapel appears - as a branch of the Brigels parish church - with its patron saint St. Eusebius, first mentioned in a document in 1185. In the 17th century, as a pilgrimage church, it was often visited by the sick, as noted by the visitation protocol of 1643.

Building description: The floor plan of the choirless, east-facing hall church forms a displaced rectangle interrupted by the tower entering. The sanctuary is architecturally not eliminated, but only marked at ground level by a step, about 3.5m from the east wall. The door in the west is framed by tuff stones.

The tower of 1100 is in an escape with the current front of the ship, but not with its north wall. In the three lower compatriments simple round-arched slit windows, double windows coupled against three sides at the top, 14th century.

Murals: From three stages: I. On the southern outer wall of the ship, namely in the zone of the extension, a St. Christophorus is painted in double life size. The strongly faded image shows the saint - in a red coat covered with hermic ribbed and short skirt - still in the older conception, carrying the child on his right arm. The posture is purely frontal, the rod vertically positioned. Mid-14th century, by a Ticino or Lombard painter. II. On the eastern inner wall St. Andreas Mathias Bartholomäus Jakobus. III. On the south wall, a large quattrocentric epiphany image adjoins the row of saints. The depiction is a popularly coarsened variant of the type masterfully trained by Gentile Da Fabriano, inspired by the magnificent Epiphany elevators on Epiphany Day.

Altars: Shrine of a Gothic altar from 1486 with Our Lady, St. Anthony and Leonard, right and left St. Wolfgang and Sebastian. Painted winged altar from 1633. This was reassembled during the renovation of the high altar.

Equipment: A crucifix, very primitive shape, a replica of an original from the 13th century.

Bells from the Walpen foundry in Reckingen, with inscriptions in 1774 and 1819.
