Museum Bregaglia Engadin
Museo Ciäsa Granda and Atelier Giacometti
Description
Works by the world-famous Giacometti family, Varlin and other artists are exhibited in the Ciäsa Granda. A guided tour of the Giacometti studio is also offered once or twice a week. In dioramas and reconstructed workshops, the museum shows how people in Bregaglia used to live and work. What is the story behind the confectioners? What were the cascine (small stone huts in the chestnut groves) used for? Even older traces of human activity in the valley date back 8,000 years. And it wasn't just the Etruscans and Romans who left their mark in Bregaglia...
Many animal and plant species are also at home in Bregaglia and are exhibited in the Ciäsa Granda according to their habitats. The mineral collection also focuses on the geology of Bregaglia. Three geological units of the central Alps meet here: Bergell granite, the Penninic blankets of the Western Alps and the Eastern Alpine blankets.
During the summer months, the Ciäsa Granda presents changing exhibitions.
