Rovine torre Monticello

Rovine torre Monticello
In the middle of the beautiful vineyards and woods of the hill of La Motta, south of the village of Monticello, you can still see some remains of the walls of a mysterious tower.

Description

The tower probably had a surveillance and defensive function along the southern border of Mesolcina. The remains of the walls testify to the probable control of the passage between the Moesa River and the hill itself. According to local accounts, the stones of the tower were reused in the construction of the church of Santa Maria della Neve, built in 1513 north of the hill.
