Description

At 2099 meters above sea level lies the Sächserseeli. It has no surface inflow, and is instead fed by underground springs with fresh water. Some mountain lakes became world-famous because a famous mountain is reflected in them. For example, the Riffelsee at the Gornergrat, where on calm days the inverted Matterhorn lies, or the Bachsee above Grindelwald, where the Schreckhorn is mirrored in the water. The Sächserseeli, however, is relatively unknown. Perhaps that's because the 2523-meter-high mountain, Magerrain, reflected in the Sächserseeli, doesn't quite match the fame of its counterparts in the Valais and the Bernese Oberland. Tip: Combine your visit to the Sächserseeli with a hike to the Spitzmeilen Hut and the Maadseeli below it.
