The Wildsee, part of the Five Lakes Hike, is situated in a high alpine landscape and impresses with its milky-blue color. The hike offers views of the Pizol Glacier and the Graue Hörner.

Description

Whether Wildsee, Schottensee, Schwarzsee, or Baschalvasee—each of the four Pizol lakes is a jewel in its own right, and so unique that visitors are left in awe. The 5-Lake Hike is considered a classic among Swiss mountain hikes, taking you past all of the Pizol lakes. The hike begins at the Pizolhütte near Wangsersee. The climb to the Wildseelücke at 2,493 meters takes about an hour and rewards you with a magnificent view reaching as far as the Ortler and Piz Kesch. Just below the ridge, at 2,438 meters, lies the Wildsee, with its milky-blue water, appearing almost painted into the barren alpine landscape. In the background, you can spot the Pizol Glacier, the Pizol summit, and the Graue Hörner ("Gray Horns"). A short descent brings you to the shimmering green Schottensee at 2,335 meters. On a warm summer day, its clear waters may even tempt hardy hikers to take a refreshing dip. The trail continues to Schwarzsee at 2,368 meters, which, in contrast to the previous lakes, appears rather dark and ominous. It’s no surprise that, according to legend, a bull is said to dwell in its depths. Passing numerous ancient Steinmannli (stone cairns), you eventually reach the Baschalvasee at 2,174 meters, whose vibrant green hue rivals the surrounding alpine meadows.
