Valposchiavo Organic Valley

Imbach hiking tour «Valposchiavo Bio-Tal» "Bio-Tal" – over 90% of the agricultural land in Valposchiavo – a southern valley of Graubünden – is cultivated by certified organic farms. With such a high proportion of organic products, the valley is almost alone in Switzerland and even worldwide. In addition to the spectacular return journey with the RhB and the hikes, this trip also focuses on the wealth of locally produced food, regional crafts and the valley's own culture. Day 1: Arrival with the Bernina Express

Individual arrival at Chur train station. Joint panoramic trip with the official Bernina Express at 8.32 a.m. from Chur on the UNESCO World Heritage route of the Albula Line, including the 65-metre-high "Landwasser Viaduct Railway Experience" to the Engadine and on to Le Prese (Alpine Circle) without changing trains. In serpentine lines and without any cogwheel, it goes up to the "Diavolezza glacier experience", past the Bernina massif and down into the charming, Italian-speaking Valposchiavo. Arrival in Le Prese shortly after noon. In the afternoon leisurely hike around Lago di Poschiavo and then visit the herb king of Switzerland: Bio Raselli. The selected herbs are cared for and raised according to organic guidelines. And in the farm's own Erboristeria Biologica, they are processed just as carefully. In the evening welcome aperitif and first dinner together in the family-run Hotel Raselli, which is known for its fine cuisine with local specialties. Hiking time approx. 2 h / ↑ 90 m ↓

Day 2: Casa Tomè and Glacier Garden

Hike from Le Prese to Poschiavo. Village tour through narrow streets and beautiful village squares – Poschiavo, a village that is protected because of its historical importance and offers Mediterranean lifestyle in the midst of an alpine backdrop. Visit to the Casa Tomè Museum – a 660-year-old house in the village centre of Poschiavo, one of the oldest and best preserved farmhouses in the Alps and was inhabited until 1990. In the afternoon short train ride to Cavaglia and guided visit of the glacier garden. Big, bigger, huge. The glacial mills of Cavaglia, also known as the "pots of the giants", at the foot of the Bernina massif and dominated by Piz Palü, are an impressive natural phenomenon. Hiking time approx. 21/2 h / 390 m ↑ 340 m ↓ (hike Le Prese – Poschiavo) and approx. 2 h / ↑ 80 m ↓ (glacier garden)

Day 3: Casa Besta and Circular Viaduct

From the small village of Miralago, at the southern end of Lake Poschiavo, beautiful hike to Brusio. Visit to the Casa Besta Museum. The ethnographic museum tells the story of the village, which smells of tobacco and coffee and is characterized by wine. In addition, the museum also offers an insight into the local crafts. In the south of Brusio is also the landmark of the Bernina Railway: the fascinating circular viaduct, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hiking time approx. 2 h / 140 m ↑ 390 m ↓

Day 4: Agriturismo

Hike from Brusio to Campocologno – the southernmost village in the canton of Graubünden and the last town before crossing the border to Italy. On the way visit an agriturismo where various berries, cherries, plums, apples as well as nuts and chestnuts are cultivated. The mountains form the framework of the fruit growing cultures, where planting and harvesting takes place with passion for work, love for one's own land and friendly cooperation. Hiking time approx. 2 h / 80 m ↑ 185 m ↓

Day 5: Individual return journey

After breakfast, train ride with the RhB from Le Prese over the Bernina past the «Nature Experience Swiss National Park» towards the Lower Engadine. Optional stop at the National Park Centre in Zernez. Continue through the Vereina tunnel to Klosters and down the Prättigau to Landquart. Individual return journey from Landquart.
