Spectacular Views

Mountains, glaciers and the Val Poschiavo – the Bernina Express stops on the southern side of the Bernina Pass at Alp Grüm before it goes downhill at a 70% decline to Val Poschiavo. A quick 20 minute stay is plenty of time to capture the magnificent alpine panorama with your camera.

Water always finds a way: Over the course of 10,000 years the river Rhine has slowly dug through the landscape creating «Switzerland’s Grand Canyon». The Rhine Gorge, or named «Ruinaulta» in Romanic, is a playground for adventurers of all ages with its jagged rock bed and steep cliffs fringed by pines, rare birds, orchids and impressive views.

If the granite peaks reflect in the water, the fascination of the mountains is increased two fold. You can experience this on the dam of Lake Albigna that allows the viewer an incomparable panoramic view towards Val Bregaglia. The Swiss electricity company built the wall in the 1950s. It serves both energy production and protection against flooding.

Hospitality means giving new perspectives. We prove this at the observation deck on the Piz Mundaun in the family-friendly Surselva district which was opened in 2006: At 2064m above sea level, it offers an unobstructed view of the Alpine panorama. The Digirama panels from Swisstopo provide eye-openers for young and old. Mountain peaks, valleys, villages and livestock Alps are all easy to discover.

What would be an alpine summer in Davos Klosters without the views immortalized by Thomas Mann in «The Magic Mountain»? The best way for guests to enjoy the iconic scenery is from the panoramic terrace of the mountain restaurant at the Weissfluhjoch. Walkers and bikers will appreciate the view at this rest point before they follow on with one of the many trails.

The unique view of the Lake District in the Upper Engadine has always attracted poets and artists to Graubünden. Today, hikers take in the views and the unique atmosphere during summer at Muottas Muragl. 1000 peaks can be discovered from the top of Parpan Rothorn. The Parpan Rothorn can be reached by cable car. It goes from the holiday spot at Lenzerheide at 1500 meters above sea level to the middle station, Scharmoin and from there to the top station of the Rothorn. The summit is 2865 meters above sea level. You can enjoy the spectacular view from the terrace of the Panorama Restaurant.

Pontresina is the region of incomparable views: the Morteratsch Glacier which lies in the middle of the impressive mountains of the Grisons Alps is the largest glacier in the Bernina group. Terrific views are also possible from Piz Bernina, the easternmost four thousand meter peaks in the Alps (4,049 meters above sea level) and when driving on the Diavolezza (2978 m above sea level).

The limestone areas west of striking Flimserstein show the demolition site of the Flims Rockslide. Hikers will be rewarded on the Cassons with a magnificent view far across the Alps and to the Tschingelhörner. The Cassonsgrat is one of the most beautiful views of the entire region.

Graubünden, a sea of peaks: Hikers reach the Weisshorngipfel in about two hours on the mountain ridge from the impressive rocky crags of the Hörnli. There you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of over 400 mountains in Switzerland and abroad. A summit tour is compulsory, especially since you can see the oldest town in Switzerland, Chur from a new perspective.
