100 years – Benno Besson

Benno Besson (1922-2006), a native of Yverdon, was one of the most important theatre directors in Europe, internationally outstanding, epoch-making. His work contains some of the most impressive and attractive moments in theatre history.

In 2022, Benno Besson would celebrate his hundredth birthday. In his honour, the Institute of Theatre Studies in Bern is dedicating a travelling exhibition to the artist of the century, which will be shown at various theatres in Switzerland and Germany - as an all-round view of all facets of his work and life. The exhibition sheds light on the historical context and opens up spaces for thinking about the here and now, making it possible to experience the positive power of theatre in its unifying effect for society.
