Cinema: "Red Sky" in Ilanz

A summer on the Baltic Sea. It's hot, hasn't rained for ages. In a lonely holiday home between the forest and the sea, the friends Leon and Felix meet Nadja, who works in the nearby coastal town, and the lifeguard Devid. While Leon, who wants to finish his second novel, is constantly circling around himself, the other three go swimming together, repair a roof, cook. These are floating days, as if they have fallen out of the world. And like a spark is enough to set fire to the dried-up forests in the area, longings, doubts and hopes immediately flare up in Leon, Felix, Nadja and Devid.

"Red Sky" is about being in the world and whether one might be living past it, about the search for one's own path, for fulfillment. Light-heartedness and unhappiness, lightness and forlornness are close together – the fact that the story never seems heavy is thanks to the poetry and tenderness with which director and screenwriter Christian Petzold ("Undine") tells it. His film was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Festival: outstandingly acted, by Paula Beer, Thomas Schubert and Matthias Brandt, among others, "Red Sky" is of magical intensity, seductive and intoxicating.
