For documentary filmmaker Zoe (Lily James), finding the right thing is not so easy, especially since dating apps only ever date her with the wrong people. This does not go unnoticed by her chaotic mother Cath (Emma Thompson), who brings Zoe to despair with one or the other snippy comment. Zoe's childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Shazad Latif) does not know these problems. His choice of partner is taken over by his parents, who want to marry him to a beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his trip to London, where he is to marry a complete stranger, she wonders if she can learn anything from this different approach to finding love.
