Public guided tour "On the Value of Art"

Record sums are paid for icons of modernism, young artists rise to become big earners in a very short time, while once celebrated artists fall into oblivion and slumber in depots of public collections that are bursting at the seams.
Far removed from the polemics about art and money, the exhibition "On the Value of Art" aims to trace the complex relationship between art and value on the basis of selected items from the collection of the Bündner Kunstmuseum. Works by Dieter Roth, Ingeborg Lüscher, Urs Lüthi, Fischli/Weiss or Ben Vautier are related to themes through which we can approach the mystery of value. Transience, authorship, irony or sovereignty of interpretation are just a few aspects. What does a work by Dieter Roth, which consists of food and slowly disintegrates, tell us about the importance of material quality? What insights does Urs Lüthi's mystification about the role of authorship give us? What does Fischli/Weiss' irony tell us about artistic appropriation? What insights do we gain about the limits of the art context when we see the designed page of Ben Vautier in the national newspaper? At present, it is increasingly expected that not only the actors of the art world judge the meaning of art. The public also wants to be newly involved in these processes. The exhibition aims to stimulate this discussion and at the same time create space for personal interpretations.
