The Alps upside down (Graubünden)

This stay in Graubünden invites you to discover two of the most spectacular sites of the geology of the Alps as well as more subtle and lesser-known natural treasures.

Above Flims we will observe the famous "magic line", the most spectacular overlap in the Swiss Alps, which turned the mountains upside down. This overlap represents a common geological process of mountain range formation. It is exceptionally prominently visible in the UNESCO-listed Sardona Geopark. Below Flims we will visit the Swiss "Grand Canyon", impressive gorges several hundred meters deep dug by the Rhine a little less than 10,000 years ago in the deposit of the largest known landslide in Europe.

The second part of this stay in Graubünden will be in the pretty little valley of Vals, to discover its high-altitude lakes, its famous green stone, one of the few ornamental rocks still exploited in Switzerland, its mineral water and, of course, its fantastic thermal baths! This remote corner in the middle of the Alps will still surprise architecture lovers, not only with its well-preserved traditional houses, but also with some very bold modern buildings.
