not hypocrisy The Bach-Verein Chur will perform three cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach on the weekend of 24 - 26 March 2023 in Poschiavo, Pontresina and in the Martinskirche Chur.
Exactly 300 years ago, in the spring of 1723, Bach took office as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. An unprecedentedly fruitful and creative period began. For this anniversary, the two cantatas "Ärgre dich, o Seele, nicht" (BWV 186) and "See zu, dass deine Gottesfurcht nicht Heuchelei sei" (BWV 179) will be performed – both composed in Bach's first year in Leipzig.
The concert is entitled "Wer nur den lieben Gott lassen walten". The well-known chorale runs musically and textually through the cantata BWV 93, composed in 1724. The central duet can be found again in the famous "Schübler Chorales". In terms of content, the cantatas show an unwanted topicality: while in one cantata Christians are asked to endure the scarcity on earth, the others denounce body cult and hypocrisy. The
soloists Manuela Tuena, N.N., Christoph Waltle and Mattias Müller-Arpagaus are amplified ad hoc by a ripino choir. Pieder accompanies Jörg on the harpsichord.

The Association
Committed musicians came together in Chur in 2019 to perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750). After successful first concerts, the newly founded Bach-Verein Chur has set itself the goal of rehearsing concerts with music by J. S. Bach every year and, if possible, taking local musicians into account. At the beginning of April 2022, the "St. John Passion", one of the most important works of church music, was on the program. The two concerts in Chur and Pfäfers were a complete success! And so it was with the two cantata concerts with three Bach cantatas on 8 and 9 October 2022 in Pfäfers and Chur.
