Matthias Neumann, born in 1984, is professor of organ at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and at the Hochschule für evangelische Kirchenmusik in Bayreuth. From 2009 to 2016, in addition to his Bayreuth activities, he was cantor at the church of St. Marien in the municipality of Ohlsdorf-Fuhlsbüttel in Hamburg, until he accepted a call to the Hamburg University.
Neumann received his first organ lessons from cantor Wolfgang Westphal in Rinteln, studied church music, conducting and organ (concert exam) in Hamburg, Berlin and Vienna, organ with Wolfgang Zerer, Roman Summereder, Leo van Doeselaar and Paolo Crivellaro, as well as conducting with Christof Prick. He is a Bach Prize winner of the city of Leipzig (2012).
