258 Isla Sut Bike

It is an after-work tour, a family outing or simply a small and fine bike tour to the young Rhine. This tour can be driven early in spring or into late autumn - often also in winter.

From the train station in Ilanz, the first town on the young Rhine, the bike route leads over the meadows and fields above Castrisch. Simple gravel roads and smooth single trails lead us towards the Rhine. Under the railway line through and continue on a short stretch of hiking trail along the Rhine, to Isla Sut (nature reserve) at the entrance to the Rhine Gorge. There is a fireplace and a surprisingly large sandy beach on the water. During a rest on the peninsula on the young Rhine you can enjoy the picnic especially. Strengthened it goes a little uphill to Castrisch. The historic village centre with the typical fountain is under heritage protection and is worth a stop. In the attic of the church lives a protected bat colony.

Rolling out on dirt roads and at the very end a short piece of easy single trail round off this tour perfectly.

A visit to Ilanz, the Reformation city of Europe, is definitely worthwhile. A detour to the Rhine Gorge is also recommended.
