Description
Stage 3: From Capanna Bovarina to Lukmanierpass
A not too steep ascent, through alpine pastures past Alpe di Bovarina, leads to Passo di Gana Negra. On the pastures, the path is not consistently well marked and requires corresponding attention. Further up it runs on and beside a narrow band of rauhwacke rocks. The highlight of this tour is undoubtedly the scenic round rock blocks made of black clay and calc-schist of the Coroi series (Jura) lying in the landscape. Weathered garnet inclusions are often found in them. These blocks mostly come from older rockfalls from Pizzo del Corvo and are more or less heavily weathered.
The highest point of the pass is not exactly defined on the map because the crossing extends over a flat hollow. The descent first proceeds gently, then steeply down through alpine meadows to Lukmanierpass. Below Foppa di Negra, you get a good view into Vallone di Casaccia with bizarre dolomite and rauhwacke formations. Also magnificent is the view into Valle Santa Maria with the larch and mountain pine forests and the moorlands of national importance. From Hospezi Santa Maria, the post bus can be taken to Olivone or Disentis.
