Description
Take one last look at the magnificent mountain panorama, as you won’t get this close to the Bernina massif on the next stages.
Those who want a quieter day can take the gondola down to the valley; others descend the same way to Lej da Diavolezza and continue along the ski slope to the valley station of the Diavolezza railway. At the valley station, the path crosses the pass road and follows a short stretch of road before turning into an alpine path. Cross the bridge and enter Val da Fain, continuing along the alpine path. It is not uncommon to hear a marmot whistle, and the plant life in this valley is special. After about half an hour, the path branches off to the left and climbs steeply in a zigzag to the rocks of Piz Albris. Confidence in footing and sure-footedness are essential for the last section, and then the wide plateau of Fuorcla Pischa opens up with numerous cairns and many small lakes. This area is home to one of the largest ibex colonies in the Alps. With luck and a sharp eye, the king of the Alps can be spotted on the rocks. After crossing Fuorcla Pischa, the path branches left down to Lej Languard. A rest can certainly be planned at the beautifully situated mountain lake. Then continue through Val Languard to the upper station of the Alp Languard chairlift, passing numerous marmot burrows; it is not uncommon to see the animals playing on the meadow. At Alp Languard, the chairlift is waiting to comfortably take you down to Pontresina. If you like, you can also descend on foot to the village in just under an hour.
