Culinary highlights and sensational landscapes: The path to the "Grand Canyon" of Switzerland is a pleasure in every respect.  It all started 10,000 years ago. Between the Flimserstein and Piz Grisch, over 10,000 million cubic meters of rock broke off and thundered to the valley. The Vorderrheintal disappeared down to Reichenau under a gigantic mass of rubble. Then the Rhine set to work, greedily ate its way through the rock and created the spectacular Swiss "Grand Canyon": the Ruinaulta. This is something like the icing on the cake of the pleasure hike from Laax to the 12.5-metre-high viewing platform "Il Spir", which means swifts.

A fitting name, because "Il Spir" floats above the Vorderrhein 400 meters lower and offers a breathtaking bird's eye view of the gorge. The Senda Ruinaulta, which promises a perfect combination of culinary delights and natural wonders, starts at the Prau la Selva sports centre in Laax. An easy walk leads past the Tuleritgsee, which supplies the slightly lower Lake Cauma with water underground, through the enchanting mountain forest of Flims-Laax-Falera. With its turquoise green color and idyllic bays, Lake Cauma soon provides a Mediterranean ambience and obviously lives up to its reputation as one of the most popular bathing lakes. There is no reason to forego cooling off on a hot summer day. Because the next destination is barely an hour away: The Restaurant Conn. Local delicacies such as the house specialty Trinser pear ravioli are served. If you can't resist the culinary temptations enough, it's best to avoid the horse-drawn carriage that waits in front of the restaurant and chauffeurs tired day-trippers comfortably back to Flims.
