Ausflug ins Tessin - Rund um den Sosto

We are in Ticino, in Olivone and above us sits the mighty Sosto, whom we circle today!

The ascent of 600 meters in altitude to Alp Carnaira should be tackled early as long as the forest is still mostly in the shade. A high-altitude trail then continues to Alpe Compietto, a flat alp with well-kept stone houses, green meadows and a lively stream. After half an hour we reach the highest point of the tour, the Passo Muazz.  We leave the Sosto on the left and walk on a road to Lago Luzzone, through a 600 meter long, illuminated tunnel. From the crown of the dam we observe climbers struggling at this vertical and we are very satisfied with Schuster's crests. 

This is followed by the descent into the valley, past picturesque houses and landscapes. The trail leads us to the left past Campo Blenio. Before the car tunnel we reach the former access road to Olivone, which is partly carved into the rock high above the wild waters of the Brenno della Greina. It is cool here and again and again it drips from the steep rocks onto our heads. 

Soon, however, the warming sun welcomes us again and Olivone is not far away. The old road ends just before the village. 

The view from ristorante Luzzone is unique.

From the church in Olivone we follow the hiking trail towards Capanna Adula. On the Passo Muazz, however, we keep to the left. We now walk on the road and later through a tunnel. After a few more bends on the road we cross the dam wall of Lago Luzzone. Afterwards, a signposted trail follows to Campo Blenio and Olivone.
