Description
We leave Bad Ragaz on Valenserstrasse and hike along the gently ascending natural road through the forest to Padaduris. On the former "Geissenweg" we reach the covered wooden bridge and after a few minutes the Cholgrueb, where large forests were felled and processed into charcoal around 1850. The place with the cross and the fountain invites you to take a short break.
Still in the forest, the route continues to the Herrenboden plain with many rare plants and upwards to the Almeiliwald, where we enjoy the magnificent views of the Rhine Valley and the surrounding mountains. After the Haldenberg meadow, we follow the brown wooden direction signs downhill on the "Vils Adolf Weg" to the Saartobel, which we cross on two bridges. The impressive sight of the waterfall is not easily forgotten.
On natural and forest roads, the route continues downhill to the Narrenberg. Above the small reservoir there are enough seating options to take a short rest. Through beech forest, over meadows, past old barns, we reach the village of Vilters, which was destroyed by a village fire on April 22, 1800. We hike past the church on the right to Rosengasse and over Crestis to Saarfall. Along the edge of the forest we reach a small nature reserve, then continue past the airfield and the Büel Castle back to Bad Ragaz.
