Show all 7 images
Ascent through sparse larch and Swiss stone pine forests and over warm, sunny slopes to the Es-cha hut.
Details
Description
The first day begins with the journey to the Upper Engadin. The ascent from Madulain is therefore somewhat shorter than the following daily stages. About 40 m south of Madulain station (recommended to arrive by train) a road leads uphill over the railway tracks. Past the modern farm and you have already left the last houses of the small village. Before reaching a gorge, the path turns right into the sunny terraced slopes. The path is well marked with signposts and leads past the Alp Es-cha Dadour. Starting from Zuoz, you first walk through the beautiful village, where old Engadin houses stand on the left and right. From the valley station of the chairlift, the Chamanna d'Es-cha is signposted. Following the high path, you reach the Alp Es-cha Dadour. Before the Alp Es-cha Dadains, the path then goes right up to the Chamanna d'Es-cha. The altitude gain (900 m) over the sunny slopes is somewhat sweaty, but the view of the Engadin from the hut terrace more than compensates for the effort.
