Description

Mighty larches and Swiss stone pines line this high-altitude trail over longer stretches. The tour is therefore also suitable for hot summer days. In between, you pass clearings, side valleys and alpine pastures that offer views of the main valley. Such viewpoints along the way include the Varuna fork in the trail, the Stafel Baita or the Maiensäss Val in the unspoilt Val d'Ursé. They live up to the name of the trail: the "Sentiero Panoramico" is an enjoyable panoramic trail. You can see across the shimmering green Lago di Poschiavo to the mountains of nearby Valtellina.

The Selva plateau is a particularly charming place. The barely wooded terrace was formed at the end of the last ice age on the edge of the melting glacier. Today there is a small village with two small churches on the edge of the escarpment high above the valley floor of Valposchiavo.

A bus service is available for the descent into the valley in the summer months. Mandatory seat reservation via SBB Mobile or sbb.ch up to 1 hour before departure. For information: +41 848 818 818

Hidden Gem

On the way there, you should definitely visit the Swing the World swings !

If you wish, you can extend the excursion and hike down to Le Prese.

Directions

The route is signposted as a mountain hiking trail (white-red-white, difficulty level T2). You start at the Cavaglia train station high above the valley floor. There are alternating ascents and descents, but the hike also runs along a flat path from time to time. In addition to forest paths and natural trails through meadows, wide gravel paths and asphalt roads with little traffic are used.
