Description

On the former service road to Valens, closed to motorized traffic, this easy route masters the first climb to the impressive Taminabrücke. Crossing this arch bridge with its 270 m span offers a view deep into the Tamina Gorge and reveals far below the Old Bath Pfäfers, the oldest baroque bath in Switzerland. In Pfäfers, a visit to the baroque monastery church is enticing before the steep connecting section rises from Ragol to the St. Margrethenberg plateau with a view of the opposite valley side. From this quiet and lonely scattered settlement, a detour on foot to the 1478-meter-high Pizalun is worthwhile, promising magnificent views over the villages and fields of the Rhine and Seez valleys. The rapid descent follows simple hiking trails, gravel and paved roads back to the Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz.

Hidden Gem

In the "Keller" of St. Margrethenberg is the Furggels fortress. It is one of the largest fortress constructions ever built in Switzerland.
