Great Lumnezia loop: Vella-Alp da Lumbrein-Vrin-Surin-Vella (Gravel)
Show all 8 images
This impressive gravel route starts in Vella, the main village of the Lumnezia municipality. Wind- and weather-resistant stables, traditional Maiensässhütten, and small villages make you forget the effort.
The three local giants Piz Terri, Péz Regina, and Piz Ault are always present – and demand their price in the form of elevation meters and sweat.

Description
A gentle warm-up? No chance! This Lumnezia route starts directly with a continuous ascent – it goes uphill from the very beginning. But with every pedal stroke, the summit gets closer, and once reached, the efforts are quickly forgotten.
After the strenuous climb on the sunny side of the valley, there is a long, rewarding descent – followed by crossing to the opposite valley side. The route passes through the dreamy villages of Surin and Silgin, where asphalt turns to gravel and the gravel heart beats faster.
At the end, there is another last ascent back to Vella. But with the destination in sight, this is quickly done as well.
Hidden Gem
- Starting early is worth it: In summer, the first ascent is fully exposed to the sun – those who start early benefit from more pleasant temperatures and quiet paths.
- Also enjoyable in reverse: The route can easily be ridden in the opposite direction – offering new perspectives and riding dynamics.
- Highlight before Silgin: Treat yourself to a little adventure, the technically easy single trail leads over an impressive suspension bridge – a real experience for gravel fans looking for variety.
Safety Note
Only ride under safe weather conditions and turn back in time if the weather changes.
