Die Medelserhütte

Alpine, exciting and challenging. This could describe this exclusive hut route. It leads both over the often visited Greina high plateau as well as over rarely traveled alpine paths.

Description

Just the journey with the «Bus alpin» into the Val Sumvitg is fantastic. At the stop "Tenigerbad" sightseeing quickly ends. Without warming up, it goes steeply up over Alp Vallesa to the Medelserhütte. The hut is known for its phenomenal sunsets.

The second day leads alpine hikers over the often melted-out and mostly crevasse-free Lavaz Glacier and further over Fuorcla Sura da Lavaz to Passo della Greina. Now you can fully enjoy the Greina high plateau up to the Terrihütte.

The third day begins with the suspension bridge "Punt la Greina." Those who manage this can now take on the ascent to Pass Diesrut under their hiking boots. The descent over Puzzatsch is then just an extra. The reserved Bus alpin or another hour's walk to the overnight stay in Vrin awaits here.

The fourth day becomes lonely again. Hardly anyone knows the hiking trail over Alp Cavel and Fuorcla da Cavel. Here the landscape is particularly barren and quiet. The idyllic mountain lake Lag Grond might invite you to a very short refreshing swim. Could be!? If you have not yet had a "knee snap" you might get it on the final descent. From the small hut Cugn Sut, the altitude meters just melt away. But now you've almost made it. In three kilometers you are back in Tenigerbad. Happy and maybe a little tired.

Attention: Road closure in Val Sumvitg

Due to a landslide in the section near Acla Mulin, the road from Acla Mulin has been closed to all traffic. The Bus Alpin Val Sumvitg runs from/to the replacement stop (Suspension bridge - Acla Mulin). This extends the hiking time by about 40 minutes toward Greina. Pedestrian access to the rear Val Sumvitg, as well as to the Greina high plateau, is always guaranteed via the suspension bridge Acla Mulin.

The duration of the closure is currently unknown.

There is also a restaurant at the stop Surrein, Val. Please note the limited parking availability on site.

Hidden Gem

Those who only want to travel for three days can end the route in Vrin and return to Ilanz by post bus.

Those looking for a rustic overnight stay before or after the route can find it at Ustria Val Sumvitg.
