Directions
From the district of Canete you walk about 100 meters on the forest road and then turn right into the mule track that leads to the meadow terrace of Scalotta (883 m); on this section of the path you cross several times the new road to the Monti, which can only be used with a driving license of the municipality. Near a fountain you come to a junction: the right path leads directly to Pian Cantone and on this path we will return; however, it is better to continue on the left and cross the Val Vertura on the bridge. A comfortable stepped path climbs through the forest and comes out again on Monte Tabiadascio, where you have a wonderful view of the valley. Further up you come to the meadows of Campaccio, which you climb up to the Roccolo building, located on a flat terrace - Roccolo is an ancient bird trapping system, common until the middle of our century, then fortunately verbo-ten. The plateau extends to the east, where the Maiensäss Laghetti (1243 m) is located, whose name can be traced back to isolated water ponds. Back to the Roccolo, the hike continues. The path rises diagonally upwards, past the huts at the top of this extensive meadow area, and then leads into a magnificent coniferous forest. Now the hike takes a flat course, up to the wide clearing with the buildings of Era (1348 m), followed at a short distance by Genova (1340 m). Again a bit through the forest and you arrive in Pian Cantone (1301 m), where there are numerous houses. Up to this point, the trail coincides with the route over the Monti, which continues across the plateau to the west. However, our hike leads downhill into the descent. After the huts of Cantone you come to a junction: the left path leads down to Giavera, which belongs to Villa di Chiavenna, and past the edge of the long terrace of Roncaiola; the right one, on the other hand, continues the route that takes us back to Canete. You descend it and come across the meadows with the huts of Sciovatto. In the further it goes again through the forest, which you leave at the eye-catching terrace of Pian Castano. A last stretch through the forest and you will find yourself
at the junction in Scalotta, where you will come across the way and return to the starting point.
