Description

In Ilanz, the first town on the Rhine, the first big climb to Ruschein begins. The view over Ilanz and part of the Surselva is a first highlight of this bike tour and soon makes you forget the effort. Slightly ascending and with a lot of panorama, the gravel road leads to Siat, a picture-perfect Romanesque mountain village. The following alpine road brings you to the height of the mountain pastures of Darpagaus. Tanned stables and an increasingly impressive view are companions. The subsequent descent to the road, the ascent to the small village of Pigniu, to the reservoir Lag da Pigniu are entertaining and definitely worthwhile.

Once on the dam wall, an impressive mountain world opens up. The lake is surrounded by vertical rock faces and steep sheep pastures. At the very back of the lake is a picnic area from which you can look directly to the waterfalls.

The route now takes you back a few hundred meters along the same route and later turn right towards Andiast. The elongated mountain village is one of the sunniest villages in the Surselva. At the valley station of the cable cars, a short steep climb has to be mastered again before you reach Brigels via the flower meadows from Migliè. Again a beautiful village. A little bigger but no less beautiful.

Now follow 400 meters of fantastic single trails almost down to Danis, before it goes back to Ilanz along the cycle path no. 2 at the end.

Geheimtipp

The rock face with imposing waterfalls at the very back of Lag da Pigniu is so impressive that the detour to the very end of the gravel road is definitely worthwhile.
