Description

The Tschentaneras trail in Castrisch is classic and groomed for skating and is about 5 km long. It is centrally located and easily accessible by car and public transport. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the mountains of the Surselva. The village of Castrisch is located at the entrance of the Ruinaulta, the Rhine Gorge - also known as the "Swiss Grand Canyon". The history of the Ruinaulta began with the massive Flims landslide about 10,000 years ago. The Rhine was dammed and made its way over thousands of years - thus forming the Ruinaulta.

The trail is only located at 700 meters above sea level and is not always spoiled with snow. Information on snow conditions and the opening of the cross-country ski trails can be found here.

Very close to the cross-country ski trail, near the village of Castrisch, there is a small ski lift. This can be used during opening hours for a small fee.

Adapt the running style to your ability. Especially on steeper terrain, the descents should be approached slowly.

Good cross-country skiing equipment is necessary for this route. Great importance should be attached to functional cross-country clothing, suitable cross-country skis, poles of the right length and grown and suitable cross-country skis in length. Directions

The route starts at the parking lot "Kiesgrube Montalta" in Sevgein. The trail leads from the car park in the direction of Castrisch village and from Castrisch back to the car park.

Arrival by public transport:

from Ilanz train station: Bus 405 to the stop Plaun Gera, Sevgein (5 minutes walk to the cross-country ski trail)

from Castrisch station: The cross-country ski trail is about a 15-minute walk away in Pieinas.

Anreise Information

From Ilanz town in the direction of Castrisch follow the Ilanzerstrasse. After crossing the bridge, you have to turn right at the second road, opposite the Landgasthof Glenner. Turn left at the first entrance (Montalta gravel pit).

The parking lot "Montalta" in Sevgein is in a gravel pit and has many parking spaces.
