Description

This tour starts in St. Moritz Bad by the Ovaverva indoor swimming pool and leads towards the car park of the valley station of the Signal aerial cableway. From here, it runs parallel to the ski slope (valley descent) in the direction of the Signal summit station. The paths take you along forest roads and trails through areas of woodland as far as the tree line. Before reaching the Signal top station, the forest road branches off to the right towards the Alp Giop. From now on, always follow the forest road up to the Corviglia mountain station. The trail continues towards Piz Nair and passes the Lej Alv mountain lake. Around the Lej Alv, there is a 1 km-long woodchip trail, which is ideal for altitude training. Gradually, the trail becomes gravelly and very stony. In winter, a very steep ski piste runs along our trail, so the running trail is also correspondingly steep. Once this has been negotiated, you will reach a small saddle (Fuorcla Schlattain) with a signpost to Piz Nair. The view now extends into the Val Suvretta valley, with the Piz Julier and the Bernina mountain range in the distance. The trail leads to the left high over a narrow, steep path (Attention: mountain bikers also use this part of the route!) and runs over a wider piste to the Piz Nair top station, where you will be greeted by a huge sculpture of an ibex! If you want to continue to the highest point, simply follow the signpost to the summit (an extra 5 minutes or so). From the top station, the path leads down through the Corviglia ski area. The first section is slightly exposed and requires sure-footedness (sand and scree make the trail very slippery). After the steep section, the trail becomes walkable again and leads downhill over meadow trails towards Signal. Past the Trutz and Paradiso hut the trail leads into Val Suvretta, then downhill along the rushing river, first along a forest road, later on asphalt to the valley station of the chairlift Randolins and further past the Suvretta Hotel to the crossroads and bus stop Somplatz. Cross the road and return to the valley station of the signal cable car and to the indoor swimming pool Ovaverva, the starting point.
