Description

Beauties that can be driven from mid-March to November.

After the quiet passage along the western shore of Lake Poschiavo, a short descent to Brusio follows. From here, take the historic Smugglers' Road that leads to Viano. This is a hard climb on asphalt. The start is at 400 m above sea level in the valley floor the finish is Viano at 1250 m above sea level. A breathtaking view of the lower valley rewards the effort. With a bit of luck you can also watch the train on the historic circular viaduct of Brusio. From Viano begins a technical descent that takes you to Campascio at 650 m above sea level. where you change the valley side and start a new climb on the Cavaione road to reach Scala at 1000 m above sea level. A descent on stony ground, which crosses the imposing water pipe of the Campocologno power plant, leads to the chestnut groves of Campocologno at 500 m above sea level.Back it goes either in the saddle on side roads to Le Prese/ Poschiavo or with the luxury shuttle of the Rhaetian Railway.

Geheimtipp

Monte Scala-Campocologno challenging in wet conditions.

Ideal for e-mtb.

Alternatives:

- From Viano continue to Baruffini or Roncaiola, departure to Tirano through the vineyards of Valtellina, return from Tirano in the saddle on side roads or with the Rhaetian Railway.

- From Scala we continue to Cavaione with a technically demanding descent to Zalende on the old partly exposed mule track.
