Description

Until about the middle of the 20th century, Savogno was an important mountain village. The stone houses built close together with narrow, winding paths and stairways are typical for these old settlements. For some time now, the village, which was almost completely abandoned in the meantime, has become a popular holiday location and the houses are being rebuilt and renovated.

There are several ways to get to Savogno: first of all, the beautiful mule track, made entirely of stone steps, which climbs from Borgonuovo di Piuro. You can also take the Acquafraggia panoramic path or start from the village of Sant'Abbondio.

Directions

The path to Savogno starts at the houses of Serlone, which can be reached from the parking area along a short connecting path. At the highest house in the village, turn onto the beautiful mule track that climbs mainly through chestnut woods. The path leads to a group of buildings lined up next to each other, simply called "the stables", where a typical stone fountain can be seen. Continue following the path up the steps. Shortly after a small chapel, the path from Sant'Abbondio joins from the left, later a possible descent option. A little further on, you reach a fork whose two paths lead to Savogno: The route on the right is shorter and more direct, while on the left you come to a clearing and reach Savogno (932 m) along the wall of the small cemetery. The two paths meet again at the church square, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Chiavenna.
To continue to Dasile, return towards the cemetery and cross the bridge over the Acquafraggia. On the opposite slope, follow the mule track that climbs diagonally up to the meadows in front of the houses of Dasile (1032 m).

The descent follows the same route.
If you want more variety, you can either descend to Sant'Abbondio or make another deviation by following the panoramic path of Acquafraggia. In both cases, as on the outward route, follow the mule track to Savogno until the junction of the Sentiero di Pigión (signpost). The trail is well marked and leads to a bridge over the Acquafraggia. Beyond the stream, turn into the descent, at the end of which you come to the junction of the panoramic path. You can descend along it, crossing the stream again on the rope bridge and following the steps with handrail that lead to the car park at the base of the falls.
To go down to Sant'Abbondio, at the said junction, go straight on over a flat wooded terrace, followed by a series of steps, until you reach the junction with the mule track to Cranna. Follow this to the left until you reach the road and continue to the base of the waterfalls. Return to the car park along the village road.
