Description

The snowshoe trail Tscheurig starts in Thalkirch. Before setting off, it's worth taking a look at the small Thaler church. It impresses with its fine simplicity. The trail then branches off to the right of the valley road opposite the old postbus stop Alte Post.

Continuously ascending gently, you walk up to the lower Tscheurig huts and further to Alp Tscheurig. From here it gets a bit steeper, and you become increasingly aware of the pronounced terrain chambers at the foot of the Tällihorn. At an altitude of around 2,100 meters, you enjoy a magnificent view of the valley end with the dominant Weisshorn. Those who watch closely can even observe ptarmigans.

After crossing the Gasslitobel, the descent begins to Alp Guw and further to the mountain inn Turrahus and the postbus stop Thalkirch/Turrahus. Right next door at the exhibition barn Turrahus, visitors learn interesting facts about the settlement of the Safien valley and the typical wooden buildings and barns of the valley. You can even try your hand at laying shingles on a roof yourself. Those who like it cozy can satisfy their hunger at the nearby mountain inn Turrahus or the farm bistro Gassli with fine regional specialties.

Hidden Gem

The trail can also be hiked in the opposite direction.

Safety Note

This snowshoe tour is marked in the terrain with pink posts, but not tracked. There are some steeper slopes. In case of high avalanche danger, tours in unsecured terrain must generally be avoided.

On WhiteRisk you can learn more about the current avalanche danger.

For carefree enjoyment on longer tours, we recommend our mountain guides and snowshoe hiking guides of Surselva.

Equipment

Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter baskets, good footwear, winter-appropriate clothing. In winter, wind can significantly lower the perceived temperature: don't forget winter gloves, a hat, a thermos bottle, etc.

Carrying complete safety equipment, including an avalanche transceiver (LVS), is necessary on this route.

Snowshoe equipment can be rented at the Gasslihof.
