Description

The Transviamala running experience starts in Thusis and runs on the old road through the “lost hole” to Rongellen. After this initial steep climb, you leave the road and run along the “Via Spluga” towards the Viamala Gorge. This section promises stair-step ascents, single-trails along rocky bands, and breathtaking views into the gorge. You cross the Viamala Gorge on bridges known from many illustrations. The Via Spluga then leads down to the Rhine and over the Punt Suransuns. From here it is a constant up and down like a cross-country run, with intense climbs leading up to Reischen. This section contains one of the most impressive experiences: after a steep climb in a dark forest area, the wide and open Schamser valley suddenly opens up – the hardships of the Viamala Gorge are over! But the steep climbs are not yet... After Reischen, the run climbs again and leads through marvelous single trails above Zillis. On the classic Schamser run course, you continue via Pignia to Andeer. The gentle ascent up to Clugin warns again of the last cliff. The last kilometers demand everything in the climb to Plans. Then it’s time to let yourself run and look forward to the best cakes in the region!
