Trekking Lucomagno - Passo del sole - Altanca

This tour is not part of the signposted snowshoe trail network. We are in open terrain, where we have to assess the dangers ourselves.

We start early! From the parking lot in Casaccia we follow the many tracks southwards and we cross the Brenno on a wooden bridge. Through a pine forest, which is peppered with very gnarled and old specimens, it goes up to the Alps Stabbio Nuovo and Lareccio.  We walk past the alpine huts into the Rondadoira valley, which soon becomes more open and wider and we soon see as far as the Passo del sole . Once at the top, the Val Piora lies at our feet on the other side and we have a good overview of the second part of our tour.

It goes mostly downhill, sometimes gentler, sometimes steeper and in between there are also small counter climbs. Quite a bit before Lake Ritom we head towards the hill Pian Giübin, to the left of the lake. This is followed by a short descent to Fontanella, after which we follow the summer path to the small Costone pass. From time to time we find a hiking trail marking. Through the small and picturesque valley of Pinett we reach the dam wall. Depending on the snow conditions, we follow the summer path down to Altanca.

Ideal spring tour: From Ritom reservoir there is little snow left and we can pack the snowshoes. But start early!

From Casaccia we stop down to the Brenno and then hike more times less on the summer trail to Alpe Lareccio and we always keep the direction to Passo del sole. After the pass, continue westwards. Before the lake we keep left up to the hill Costone. There is a small pass crossing here. Then it goes through the valley Pinett to the reservoir Ritom downhill.  From here on the summer hiking trail to Altanca.
