The trail leads behind Zernez church, through an area of varied mountain forest, to Munt Baselgia. You walk up along the road. There is also the possibility of taking a taxi to the edge of the forest. The steep final section requires concentration and steady footwork, as the trail leads over block scree and bands of rock, but the effort is rewarded with a beautiful view down to the Macun lakes, the Engadin and the Ofen Pass. The descent via Fuorcletta da Barcli once again demands your full concentration, but in return you are treated to spectacular views. You can enjoy a magnificent array of flora, including the glacier buttercup (Ranunculus glacialis) and the rare, strictly protected, yellow dwarf buttercup (Pygmy ranunculus), which is only found in this one place in the whole of Switzerland. Suddenly, you are greeted by a magnificent panoramic view of the Macun lakes, and the marked resting area is a wonderful spot to take a break. After your rest, you take the steep descent direct into the Val Zeznina, to Alp Zeznina. From the Alp, a good path will take you to Lavin.
