The Crown of Surselva is an impressive and partly challenging circular hike from hut to hut in Graubünden. It connects the seven mountain huts in the Surselva – the anterior Rhine valley between Flims and the Rhine source at the Oberalp Pass including the valleys of Vals, Lumnezia, and Medel.

Description

Descent to Alp Sura and ascent to Fuorcla dalla Buora (2292 m). Descent via the Ziegenalp Puzzetta to the pass road in Fuorns. Then by postbus to the Lukmanier Pass.

Hidden Gem

Wonderful views of the glacier world at Piz Medel, the modern huts of the Ziegenalp – and of course their cheese!

The effective hiking distance is 7 kilometers.

Safety Note

Warning: Snowfields are possible on high sections even into the summer months.

The route should not be attempted in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.

Equipment

Good hiking boots with a good tread, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket/sunscreen), change of clothes, first aid kit, drinks, food, GPS device, possibly hiking poles.
