Description
A challenge with a dream backdrop: Two passes beyond the 2000-meter mark and 97 km await the participants of the “la cuorta”. After just under 27 race kilometers, the challenges come in a double pack: between Forcola di Livigno at nearly 42 kilometers and Bernina Pass at about 49 kilometers, there is only a short, fast descent for catching your breath. In the fast but easy-to-ride descent towards Pontresina, the glaciers of Piz Bernina and Piz Palü frequently gleam on the left side – a dream panorama for mountaineers and cyclists alike. Despite the well-maintained road descending from Bernina Pass, highest concentration is required, as rails cross the road in Bernina Suot and at the Montebello curve. The Bernina Express, designated a UNESCO World Heritage, has the right of way! Past the mountaineering village of Pontresina, the route leads through the Inn Valley down to Zernez.
