Umbrail Pass, 2503 metres above sea level

The Umbrail and Fuorn Passes encircle the Val Müstair, Switzerland’s first high-Alpine UNESCO biosphere reserve. The Umbrail Pass is the highest pass in Switzerland and is the link to the Val Braulio. A tour over this pass is a winding, worthwhile adventure, revealing all the beauty of the high-Alpine landscape and the Münstertal. Add to that the valley’s Mediterranean climate and its cultural high point: the Convent of St. John, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983. Its murals from Carolingian times are always worth a stop. The Umbrail Pass also makes an excellent starting point for bike and hiking tours.
