Good air, good journey: even the trip to the Graubünden mountains is a relaxing experience. The easiest way to get around in the Graubünden holiday region is with the Rhaetian Railway, which includes the most beautiful views. Leave the hustle and bustle behind in the valley.

Where is Graubünden Located?

Graubünden, the largest canton in Switzerland by area, is located in the southeast of the country. The cantonal territory borders Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein. The landscape is characterised by 150 valleys, 1038 lakes and hundreds of mountain peaks.

By Public Transport

Graubünden has excellent public transport connections. Parts of the Rhaetian Railway lines are a UNESCO World Heritage site. The most important hubs for onward travel to all holiday regions are Chur and Landquart.

Graubünden is also well connected to the international rail network from neighbouring countries. Guests from Germany, Austria and France travel via Zurich and Sargans. From Italy, Rhaetian Railway connections from Tirano or PostBus services from Bellinzona lead directly into the Graubünden mountains.

The Swiss Travel Pass is recommended for guests from abroad. Those who concentrate their journey of discovery on Graubünden should choose the graubünden Pass. Both allow free travel by train and bus within their respective areas of validity.

By Car

The most important transport axis for arriving by car is the A13 motorway, which connects to the European motorway network. As a weather-independent alternative to travelling over the pass into the Engadin, the Vereina car transporter train offers a direct connection between Prättigau (Klosters) and the Engadin (Sagliains).

A vignette is required to use the Swiss motorways. The annual vignette for 40 francs is available as a sticker or e-vignette. It can be purchased at border crossings, petrol stations or online.

Are you travelling by public transport but want to be flexible on site? Mobility vehicles are available for hire at train stations and other central locations in many Graubünden towns – easily bookable via an app.

By Plane

Zurich Airport (ZRH), as the largest Swiss airport, is the primary point of arrival. From the airport's own railway station, trains run directly to Landquart and Chur, the hubs for onward travel to all holiday regions. Rental cars are available at the Airport Center.

Depending on the holiday region, airports in neighbouring countries can shorten the journey: Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) for the southern valleys, Innsbruck Airport (INN) for the Engadin and Samnaun, and Bodensee-Airport Friedrichshafen (FDH) as an alternative for the northern regions.

For the most direct journey to the Engadin, Engadin Airport (SMV) near Samedan is available. As the highest airport in Europe, it primarily serves private air traffic but also offers a selection of scheduled and charter flights.
