This hike offers wonderful views into the Bergell valley and of the surrounding mountain ranges: Cacciabella, Sciora, Cengalo, and Badile.
Details
Description
The varied path leads on the sunny side of the Bergell from Casaccia to Soglio. Spectacular views repeatedly open up over the rugged three-thousanders that separate the Bergell from Italy.
It is basically easy to walk; however, you should not underestimate the height differences of 464 m ascent and 825 m descent.
For those who want to walk the entire Panoramaweg, the path continues on the second day from Soglio towards Savogno.
Hidden Gem
A stop at Alp Durbegia is worthwhile. The mountain hut is staffed in summer and serves coffee, cakes, fresh drinks, and small meals.
Safety Note
Due to acute risk of rockfall, the original route between Roticcio and Vicosoprano is closed until further notice. Until this route becomes passable again, the path is alternatively guided from Roticcio below the Mulina campsite to Vicosoprano, and from there to Durbegia.
Equipment
Hiking shoes, rain protection, provisions from the backpack
Directions
From Casaccia, the path leads west on the right side of the valley, over the Maira bridge and through flat meadows to the small lake of Löbbia. After the lake, follow the red and white marking and easily descend to Barga, and after further coniferous and birch forests, reach the hamlet of Roticcio.
To bypass the path closure between Roticcio and Durbegia, we follow the descending path or the road towards Vicosoprano at the edge of the village until the Mulina campsite. About 50 m below the campsite, the route follows the path turning right, past the mill pond, and after about 800 m meets a small forest road. Following the road up leads to Durbegia and thus back to the original Sentiero Panoramico.
Soon the path becomes narrower and leads as a footpath through several ravines and streams. Passing former pens, it goes down through some clearings to Parlongh. Until shortly before Soglio, the path remains pretty much at the same elevation, then steeply descends to the green meadows of Soglio.
This hike takes about five hours.
The route can be shortened by walking only the section to Vicosoprano (junction shortly before Durbegia) or to Stampa (junction at Parlongh).
