Description

The Belvedere Tower and Castle were built, with interruptions, between 1882 and 1903. The main purpose was to build the residence for the Belgian Count Camille de Renesse, founder of the Maloja Palace. Unfortunately de Renesse had to file for bankruptcy with his Maloja Palace after already six months, 1904 he died in Nizza. In the following decades the Belvedere served as a hotel, a boarding school for girls and to the Swiss Army. The tower and the remaining of the castle were sold to the Swiss Federation for the Conservation of Nature (today: pro natura).

Due to construction work, the Belvedere Tower will be closed in summer 2022.
