Catholic wayside chapel Sogn Clau (St. Nicholas), Rueun

The Catholic wayside chapel of Sontga Clau (St. Nicholas) was built in the 18th century in the western part of the village. The chapel had to be demolished due to the construction of the new Waltensburg-Andiast road. In 1930, it was rebuilt near the first houses in the village at the western entrance on the uphill side of the new road. It was last renovated in 1991.The small, one-room chapel faces north. It has no windows and a barrel ceiling. At the flat rear, behind the brick mensa in a light blue painted round-arched niche, there is a carved wooden sculpture of the chapel's patron saint, St. Nicholas, as a bishop with mitre and crozier.The figure dates back to the previous chapel. It was restored by sculptor H. Egli-Capaul, Andiast/Zurich, in 1991 and repainted in warm brown and dark red tones. The chapel has a round-arched door with a barred top on its south side facing the street. It is unstructured on the outside and has a gray base with light broom plaster. The gabled roof is covered with metal sheets. The chapel is not accessible.
