Between 4 and 7 October 1799, the early onset of winter made the Panixer Pass almost impassable.
The army of the Russian general Suvorov, which crossed the Panixer Pass, lost all the artillery on the way, almost all the horses and a third of the crew did not survive the drama. The soldiers got lost in the fog, plunged into abysses, died on the way of hunger, exhaustion and cold.

As a reminder, the Ilanz power plants had the dam wall above Pigniu painted with a corresponding subject by the Graubünden artist Martin Valär.

The reservoir invites you to a leisurely 3 km long circular hike. The path leads past the mighty waterfalls in the valley, and past a barbecue area.
