Klosters-Serneus

Klosters became known as a winter and summer holiday resort over 100 years ago. A decisive impulse for its development into a stylish holiday classic for connoisseurs occurred in the 50s of the last century. At that time, many famous names from the mainly American and British film, music and theatre scene discovered the ski resort, which earned it the nickname "Hollywood on the Rocks". During this time, many British and American guests were drawn to Klosters, where they found their second home. They have shaped the style and atmosphere of the resort for decades, and their children still do so today.

Royal guests, original character

Klosters has been present in the media worldwide in recent decades thanks to its illustrious guests from the British royal family. Nevertheless, the elegant village, which has retained its original character and chalet style, has never taken off. On the contrary: discreet luxury with understatement has become a formula for success in the upper Prättigau. Even today, many famous guests spend their holidays here who want to relax in peace.

Families welcome

Klosters has been one of the most family-friendly holiday resorts in Switzerland for years. The leisure activities on offer include one family fun after another: themed trails, scooter descents, or the fantastic "Madrisa-Land" – the largest playground in the Swiss mountains. The five animals of the Madrisa gang will guide you through the children's area with games, fun and action. Numerous hotels that meet the strict guidelines of the "Families Welcome" seal of approval provide the right accommodation.

Discreet luxury without airs and graces

Then as now, illustrious guests like to spend their holidays in Klosters. With good reason: Here they can relax undisturbed. Luxury cars remain in the garage and parties are celebrated in their own chalet. Discreet luxury yes, flaunted ostentation no. So you won't find flagship stores of international fashion boutiques in Klosters - but small, fine shops with a sense of style and authenticity. If you want to stay in a hotel here, you won't find 5-star palaces - but the unsurpassable charm of a Chesa Grischuna or the restrained luxury of well-equipped 4-star hotels. The Arena Klosters offers two year-round sports and event halls with complete infrastructure for events.

Facts and data

The municipality of Klosters-Serneus is made up of eight municipal fractions (Klosters Platz and Dorf, Selfranga, Aeuja, Monbiel, Serneus, Mezzaselva, Saas). It is the home or residence of approx. 4,431 inhabitants (as of 2016). The highest point is the Verstanclahorn at 3,298 m above sea level, the lowest point is the border at the Landquart at 830 m above sea level. The total area is approx. 22,000 ha.
