In 1816, the Ticino road builder Giulio Pocobeili and his assistant Richard La Nicca crossed the Passo del San Bernardino to plan a route for a mountain pass road.

The chapel, located on the western edge of the village, dates from 1689. The north-facing chapel consists of a nave just under 12 meters long and 5.20 meters wide without side chapels and a choir closed on three sides.
