An old carnival custom is still alive in Splügen on Ash Wednesday: "Pschuuri, Bschuri, Bschürälä, Bschuurrimittwucha" are expressions that can still be found in many Walser regions of Graubünden. They refer to the blackening of unmarried women and young people.
