Already in the Roman Empire about 2,000 years ago, the Julier Pass was of great importance. At the top of the pass there are still two columns of a Roman sanctuary.

The village of Riom is located on the eastern slope of Piz Toissa high, above the valley floor with the Gelgia. It stands out from the surrounding villages by a striking castle. The villagescape of Riom has been designated as a "townscape of national importance".

Bivio (german and until 1902 officially Stalla, Romansh Beiva) is a place in the Grisons municipality Surses, Switzerland. It is located at the foot of the Julier and Septimer Alpine passes.

The barbecue area is located on the Ansaina waterway in the forest of Alvaneu Bad and can also be reached from the village in a few minutes. Just opposite the barbecue area is a playground. The Albula flows next door and only a short hike away is the Schaftobelfall and also the Crap Furò is about 1.15 hours walk away. The Crap Furò is the geographical centre of Graubünden - see Path of the Pioneers.
