As part of the "cultivation battle" during the 2nd World War the flood plain was drained and the Rom river was made into a canal. Between 2004 and 2007 the stream was restored. Now it ripples softly through the landscape.

Wall paintings from around 1400 have been preserved in the Stoffelhaus in Fürstenau, some of which depict a courtly hunting ceremony. In Graubünden, only Brandis Castle in Maienfeld and Rhäzüns Castle still have similar High Gothic secular paintings.

From his hut on Alp Tussagn, Segantini climbs even higher up to Lai Tigiel in a 2 1/2-hour walk. There he worked on the paintings «Alpenweiden», «Die Strafe der Wollüstigen» and «Die bösen Mütter».
