Arosa reads...Writer in Residence with D. Dusil

Description

Reading from the novel: "The Secret of Silent Sounds" by Dagmar Dusil The story takes place in the second half of the 20th century and highlights the difficult living conditions in Romania during this time. The focus is on two women: the star pianist Lavinia and her daughter Clara, who was given up for adoption at birth. Both share a passion for piano playing but remain unaware of each other for a long time. Clara is severely injured at the age of fifteen during a performance staged by the Romanian secret police Securitate at a talent competition and initially gives up her dream of a musical career to become a doctor. Nevertheless, she quietly continues to work on her piano playing. In the dramatic finale of the novel, mother and daughter meet for the first time. Voices on the book: The truth suddenly is no longer the truth. Therefore, it is necessary to draw a line, to bring something to an end, to save oneself from the past as if from a burning house, risking burning oneself, and to take with them everything they once held dear and hurt.Dr. Waldemar Fromm / Literary Criticism Reto Bonifazi, art historian and Germanist, conducts a conversation with Dagmar Dusil beforehand.Dagmar Dusil, author & Reto Bonifazi, art historian and Germanist
